Our opinion: The UTG L96 Sniper Rifle is a great value gun. While not on par with the quality of an Aries or Maruzen sniper rifle, it’s also nowhere near as expensive. We believe that the performance of an airsoft gun is more important than the appearance, but this gun rates highly in both categories.

Performance. This gun offers at least 450 fps. Darn good for a stock rifle. By all tests, the accuracy was as good as the Maruzen SR2 and the Tokyo Marui VSR. Headshot accurate up to 50 feet. Very accurate up to 100 feet. Body shot accurate up to about 180 feet. This gun is very quiet and great for getting shots off anonymously. The only performance negative is the difficulty in loading the mag. It takes some fidgeting and in a tight skirmish, this could result in disaster.

Appearance. While appearance is difficult to report on because everyone has their own likes and dislikes, this gun is beautiful. There are a lot more metal parts than you would expect for the price and it is a lot bigger than we anticipated. It weighs in at about ten pounds and it’s large size is great for parking lot intimidation.

Pros: Everyone seems to like the way all UTG guns look and feel, and this model is no different. Gun comes with an extra magazine. All internal parts are metal. Incredible power for a stock sniper rifle. Price is significantly less than high end models.

Cons: Some reports that bipod is wobbily and takes a little bit of adjustment. A few reports that the mag is somewhat difficult to insert.

Our recommendation: The UTG L96 is a fantastic value option. Taking price into consideration, this gun will give you your money’s worth and more. You will not get the performance and feel of a $600 gun, but the fact that you will even get close for so much less makes this UTG a terrific buy. We give it our highest rating.

While the Well L96 sniper rifle is basically a cheaper version of the Maruzen Type96 and the AGM, it is really a good gun all on it’s own, with a much smaller price tag. Of course, as all airsoft guns in the $100 price range have certain limitations, this one is no different. However, it certainly has it’s positives as well.

Our opinion: Like the UTG L96, the Well L96 Airsoft sniper rifle is an almost exact replica of the Maruzen Type 96. It is a very good performer, (keeping price in mind), and would be a very good buy for someone just getting into airsoft sniping or even for experienced players who need an inexpensive but pretty accurate long range performer.

Performance – The best thing about this gun is how quiet it is. Perhaps the quietest out of all the sniper rifles we reviewed. Secondly, it has a very good 420 fps. Some people have told us it gets up to 500 fps but we found that to be an exaggeration. During the shooting test, we found that it was headshot accurate up to 100 feet. Very accurate up to 120 feet. And body shot accurate up to about 145 feet. The range of the Well L96 was impressive for a stock gun around $100.

Appearance -  This gun looks cool.  Not as much metal as we would have like but the trigger is metal and it comes with an accutrigger that really works well.  Line up the two triggers, then slight pull sends round off.  Stock paint was a little lackluster and many have chosen to repaint themselves.

Our review team’s synopsis of customer reports:

Pros: The accutrigger is a big plus.  Makes shooting the Well L96 more fun and accurate.  There is a very nice magazine capacity of thirty five rounds and from most consumer reports, the mag is easy to load and insert.  Most are happy with the overall accuracy and performance.  The quickly detatchable bi pod works very well and can really be a life saver if you need to get the hell out of dodge. The bolt action is very smooth.

Cons: Some reports that the mag might not always click in solidly to the rifle. You, as the user, must make sure that it clicks in all the way. Several complaints about the sling being cheap and not very effective. Just a few complaints about the bi pod being wobbily and not spinning well. A few complaints that the barrel came out of the box with too much residue in it and needed to be cleaned before using it.

Our recommendation: We really like the Well L96 but not quite as much as the UTG L96. The Well version is very good, just not quite as good as the UTG. The Well has very good power, and very good accuracy but is just a little inconsistent compared to the UTG. Having said all that, we still rate this gun as being a very good buy and a very good value.

The most impressive aspect of the UTG M14 is it’s appearance. It is constructed entirely of metal and it looks and feels very much like the real thing. But how does it perform? It is manufactured in China and as most airsoft enthusiasts know, there can sometimes be quality control issues with Chinese made guns.

Our opinion: The UTG M14, (along with the L96), is changing the way people think about UTG’s. This gun is so darn fun to shoot, performs extraordinarily well for the price, and is extremely well built… WHEN YOU GET A GOOD ONE! We tested several and realized quickly that there are some quality control issues with the production of this gun. Some models just flat out are not constructed well. We estimate the ratio to be about three good ones to every bad one and our collection of customer reports seem to equal this ratio.

Performance. The UTG M14 offers a legitimate 320 fps. At fifty feet, you can shoot the wings off a fly. At a hundred, a headshot is possible for a skilled marksman, and it’s accuracy range maxes out at about 140 feet. It can operate in both fully auto and semi auto mode and comes with a Version 7 gearbox that is able to be upgraded to a Marui gearbox if desired.

Appearance. If it wasn’t for the orange tip, you’d swear it was the real thing. Available in black and wood finish, neither requires custom changes because they look so darn good. The all metal construction makes it an intimidating looking weapon.

Our review team’s synopsis of customer reports:

Pros: Extreme value. Very worth the price and most customers feel they got a steal of a deal buying the UTG M14. Most who own it feel it is very accurate within it’s range in both fully auto and semi auto modes and shoots with great power for a stock gun. It is designed for a sniper but many report it is equally effective in close range battle. Overall satisfaction with battery power and durability. The iron sights can still be used even with the scope mount attached. The weaver rail on the front is very well received and we read reports of people attaching flashlights, lasers or bi pods to it.

Cons: Several reports of, (for lack of a better word), lemons. Those who got well made UTG M14s were very happy with them but those who got lemons were very upset, even disgusted with their performance. Some feel the range should be longer than it is for a sniper rifle. Some have complained that the ROF selector is a little shaky and some reports of the mag falling out.

Our recommendation: We would have made this our highest rated sniper rifle if it wasn’t for the quality control issue. The good ones are phenomenal. The bad ones are bad. Having said that, we highly recommend this gun as long as you are aware of the potential of receiving a subpar unit. Classic Army makes two M14’s – the Match which is the longer version and the scout which is the shorter. Both models are excellent but we prefer the Scout for the simple reason that since it’s smaller, it is a more mobile weapon and can be used at closer ranges and from non-set positions. Despite the shorter barrel, it is just as accurate as the Match. The Classic Army M14 Scout has been around since early summer ‘07 and has gotten more and more popular since being introduced.

Our opinion: The Classic Army M14 Scout is the more practical of the two CA M14’s because of it’s smaller size and the fact that it performs as well as the Match. We believe this gun is a “tweener” as airsoft sniper rifles go. It’s superior to all of the cheap long range rifles out there yet not as good as the $600 guns. The question of value was difficult to answer with this gun because it is more expensive than a lot of the others we reviewed so the question was, does it’s performance and durability live up to it’s inflated cost? The answer we all decided on was yes, for experienced airsofters. Newbies to the sport will not recognize a big enough difference in the performance of this gun versus less expensive models. Veterans of airsoft, especially experienced snipers, will. Shooting at your opponent from 150 feet with this gun can score you a headshot instead of an ordinary kill.

Performance. Dead on from 60 feet. Dead on from 100 feet. Great grouping from 120 feet. Good grouping from 150 feet. Still pretty darn accurate from 175 feet.

Appearance. This is another gun where it’s appearance is part of it’s appeal. It’s beautiful and mimics the real thing very closely. You will get a lot of compliments on this gun, just be ready to hand it over to whoever is seeing it for the first time. (Everybody asks to hold it.) Mostly metal. Beautiful finish.

Our review team’s synopsis of customer reports:

Pros: People are impressed with the internal design of the Classic Army M14 Scout, both for performance reasons and durability reasons. The unique gearbox, the fixed motor position, the brass spring guide, and the hop up are all very appreciated features. Most reports indicate satisfaction with it’s accuracy and performance, especially from long range. Everyone loves the realistic look of this gun. The 470 round magazine and fully automatic mode make this gun very popular among snipers who also like to mix it up at close range. Replacement and upgrade parts are easy to find.

Cons: Several reports that the gun, while good, is overpriced. Several reports that the barrel needs constant cleaning or shots start curving. Some complaints that the stock spring is not of a high enough compression. Many people end up changing it out. A few complaints that the magazine can be difficult to insert.

Our recommendation: Great value for experienced airsofters but newbies should invest in a lesser long range rifle to start. This is especially true because it takes a little while to learn how to best maintain any airsoft gun and you don’t want to go through trial and error with this gun.

The Warrior AK47 sniper rifle is a very cheap sniper rifle that would probably not make anybody elses “best airsoft sniper rifles” list. It retails at about thirty dollars which most experienced airsofters know is not the price of any quality gun. We are not saying that this gun is a top performer or that this gun will strike fear into the hearts of your opponents. The reason we are listing it here is because we were amazed at how decent it was for the price, and because it is fantastic for kids or for those just starting out in airsoft and are looking for a cheap airsoft gun to wear out with tons of target practice.

Our opinion:

Performance. Great for kids or for target practice. This is not the gun you want to go into battle with. The manufacturer lists an fps of 200 but this is slightly exaggerated. It is consistently in the 170-180 fps range so it is not very accurate long range. Use this gun to hone your shorter range marksmanship and to get used to the feel of a spring powered airsoft sniper rifle.

Appearance. Looks cheap. Looks flimsy. (But who cares? Use it in private)

While the Tokyo Marui VSR10 GSPEC airsoft sniper rifle is not well named, it is very well made. For you gun experts out there, the VSR10 is based on the United States army’s M24, which was made following the model of the Remington 700. The VSR10 is a true sniper rifle as it is not efficient in any other capacity.

Our opinion: We all love the Tokyo Marui VSR10, but some of us thought it may be just a bit over priced. We all agreed it is hard to find a more accurate long range rifle. It is not the easiest gun to operate and probably isn’t the right sniper rifle for airsoft newbies. Having a decent amount of technical knowledge is required to not only make upgrades, but also to set up the stock version correctly.

Performance. Wow. The VSR10 is so powerful and accurate it makes our buddy Jason look like a good shot, and that’s saying something. You get 280 fps right out of the box. At 75 ft., Jason could score a headshot. At 100 ft. he’d hit his target 9 out of ten times. At 165 feet, he could score a kill. (So could my nine year old niece.) In other words, excellent accuracy up to about 160 or 165 feet.

Appearance. The consensus here is that the gun is a little plain looking but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It looks all business. The barrel is a little short and fat but looks much better with the silencer on. All the outer parts are metal which makes it look and feel like the real thing.

Our review team’s synopsis of customer reports:

Pros: Most like the fact that despite a lot of metal parts, the gun is very lightweight. Very easy to move with in search of that perfect position. The silencer it comes with works extremely well. Many reports of guys firing several misses without opponents hearing a thing, then finishing off with a hit. The bolt is very smooth. Many positive reports on how the hop up works. Most reports of overall satisfaction with power and accuracy.

Cons: Some feel it comes with more plastic parts than a gun of this price should. Some reports that the Marui VSR10 is overpriced. Several reports that the mag can drop rounds when taken out.

Our recommendation: If it’s in your price range, go for it! Some feel it is worth every penny, others feel the extra money would be better put to upgrading a lower priced UTG. We feel the reason for the inflated cost has more to do with durability than performance. Durability can be a very important feature and it is very nice to be able to participate in battles without giving a second though to your weapons well being.

The Socom Gear Barrett M82 is in a class all by itself. It’s a bad mofo. It’s a masterpiece, actually. Socom Gear was able to obtain the licensing rights to the Barrett name and it is prominently displayed on the body of the gun. The orange tip is definitely necessary here because it’s the only way you can tell the difference between the airsoft version and the real deal. (If you are able to afford it, can you adopt me?)

I could go on and on here but I’ll summarize my opinion by saying the Socom Gear Barrett M82 is almost as special to me as my middle son.

The KJW M700 Take Down is a clone of the Tanaka version of the same gun. The M700 is a very popular rifle with police, the United States Marines, and the United States Army. The M700 can trace it’s roots back to the British P14, manufactured back in 1917. It is a deadly accurate, very powerful weapon. Did KJW do it justice in their airsoft version?

Our opinion: This gun is downright scary. Don’t get us wrong, we love power as much as the next guy, but we don’t believe that the sport of airsoft should involve embedding plastic in your friend’s body. This gun is very powerful and must be used responsibly and with the right people. If you shoot a stranger at fifty feet with this gun, get ready to fight because he will come after you. Lastly, it is fun as hell to shoot the KJW M700 Take Down.

Performance. This gun offers a legitimate 500 to 550 fps right out of the box. You can even get more out of it if you get creative with the gas source. It is deadly accurate up to 180 feet. It is reliable at 220 feet. The sound it makes when firing tells you immediately that this gun doesn’t mess around. For the price, this is as much stock power as you will find.

Appearance. The appearance is sort of plain and understated. Some of us liked it, some of us would customize it before even taking it out of the house. There are only two manufacturers markings, one on the butt plate and one on the side of the scope. No original trademarks.

Pros: Power. Everyone loves shooting the KJW M700 Take Down because it shoots so powerfully. Overall satisfaction with the accuracy. Many comments on how well balanced it is. Several reports that the bolt action is the best experienced on any airsoft sniper rifle. The safety locking mag is a big hit. The price is very well received.

Cons: Several reports that because the power is so great, some felt the accuracy was not as good as expected at long ranges. Several reports that the hop up is difficult to adjust and requires a hop up tool that is not included. A few reports of disappointment in the fact that there was nothing included to clean the barrel.

Our recommendation: Get it if you can use it responsibly. NOT FOR CHILDREN. NOT TO BE USED AGAINST CHILDREN. Overall, we loved this gun. It was the favorite of several guys here.
